Hello October!

Thoughts on why we Volunteer

Thoughts on why we volunteer and commit our time and efforts to others and how this provides meaning to our lives, here's part of a quote from Viktor Frankl.

Being human always points, and is directed, to something or someone, other than oneself -- be it a meaning to fulfill or another human being to encounter. The more one forgets himself -- by giving himself to a cause to serve or another person to love -- the more human he is." - Viktor Frankl.

No experience required so don’t worry, you’ll receive instructions!  Some members will be making jewelry while others can be packaging it up for delivery.

While everyone is working, we’ll give you an update of things going on with the various committees of the club!   Please bring old, broken or gently used jewelry you would like to donate as well as needle nose pliers (if you have any).

FALL BRUNCH - Nov. 15th

Join us for our Fall Brunch.  It will be held at 11:30am on Sunday, November 15th at the Oswego Pointe Condominiums (5065 Foothills Rd, Lake Oswego – Riverside Room).  For this event, we would like to ask that you bring the following:
  • “Active” and "Sustainer" members - please bring a food dish to share
  • “Provisional” members - please bring toiletry items to donate to Love Inc.  This can include shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, etc.  Just put toiletries on your grocery list!  All of these items will be delivered to the Mountain Park Church, where a member of Love Inc. will pick them up.
After everyone has had a chance to eat and mingle we’ll provide a brief update on what is happening with the club!

HOLIDAY PARTY

Mark your calendar for the LOWC Holiday Party!  It will be held at the Holiday Inn Express  (15700 SW Upper Boones Ferry Rd, Lake Oswego, OR 97035) on Saturday December 12th from 7pm to 10pm.

This will be a catered event and significant others are encouraged!  More details and pricing to follow, but please add it on your calendar for now.

Do you or your significant other have a fun/funny ability to share?  Ventriloquism, a magic trick, a song they can karaoke to, a good (or sometimes bad) joke?  Think about it!  We may put a short line-up together!

WONDERING ABOUT WHICH COMMITTEE YOU ARE ON?

We have nearly completed our committee assignments and will send out an email to our entire membership with that information very soon!!  Watch for it and be ready to meet with your new committee members and have fun getting involved!

FASHION SHOW

Our fashion show was a big success.  We raised over $3000 for our charitable causes and had a great time doing it!  If you couldn't make it, just ask anyone who was there!  A big 'Thank You' goes out to Sheri Rathbun and the entire fashion show committee for a job well done!  Thank you ladies for your dedication and commitment to this event and the LOWC!

Lake Run Update

LOWC's 40th anniversary Lake Run
is on Saturday, May 7, 2016!

We have already been working hard towards this year’s Lake Run success.  Here are a few details:
  • Our 2016 advertising design and shirt logo are completed
  • The registration site with Chronotrack is open for runners - click Lake Run registration for details
  • The LOWC website is updated and full of information pertaining to the Lake Run
  • We even have 1 sponsor for $5000 on board
  • We have cards and flyers to begin the advertising and will be asking for your support to get the word out there
I am excited!

I look forward to working with the Lake Run committee; thank you in advance for your service.  We had a wonderful team last year, with several people returning to help again this year.  I will be setting up a meeting very soon for all of us to get together.
  • We will look at key areas and agree on roles and responsibilities
  • Pick a shirt color
  • As well as, enjoy some food and drinks and get to know each other

The Lake Run is our biggest fundraiser of the year!  We are making a difference because each of YOU, our wonderful LOWC members, have had a part in making it happen.

Special thanks to our President, Lisa Rainer, for the logo graphics as well as setting up the registration site and to our Website Administrator, Jane Schmits, for the splendid job on our LOWC Lake Run webpages.

Fashion, Food and French Frivolity

LOWC members enjoyed conversational bouquets with old and new friends on September 24, 2015 at Oswego Lake Country Club at our 15th Annual Fall Charity Luncheon. We all enjoyed Paris for a few hours indulging in a bit of French flânerie.

Saint Child's Open House

DeLoris, Fran, Jane Luby and Minita visited the open house event hosted by St. Child's.  It was a lovely remodeled home with a beautiful yard that made the home feel safe, welcoming and peaceful.  Rebecca showed us the living quarters and talked about some of the checks and balances that are in place to make sure the girls followed the process.

The girls get to decorate their own rooms including choosing their own bedding from a donated selection which they get to keep when they move out.  They ate dinner several times a week as a family and took turns cooking and cleaning.

While we were there, we were introduced to the board of directors of Saint Child's as well as the pastor of Cedar Mills Bible Church (which is within walking distance of the house).  They were all very nice and so happy that we were there for the open house as well as appreciated our monetary contribution to support this wonderful program.

We also met the Resident Assistant that lives upstairs and helps the girls with anything that they may need.  She genuinely loves what she does and has a big heart.  She told us how excited they all were for a new baby that was coming in to this world any day now.

We all very impressed with the place!  Go to Saint Child if you want to learn more about this program and/or see a video of the beautiful facility.  The video is under the "tour" tab on the website.  There is also a "donate" tab for a list of all the things that they need but just a couple of items to mention would be new twin bedding, picture frames, clothes, etc.  We will have a donation drive for them at one of our meetings - details to follow in a future blog.

We talked about possibly doing a crafting project or jewelry making class.  DeLoris is going to check with her contact to see if we can set something up soon.

Fall fundraiser is on October 17th - please see invitation below and RSVP if you are able to make it!
