Summer Breeze

Lake Run was Fantastic!

Check out the recap in the May 15th edition of LO review.

We had 1217 runners participate this year in our 38th annual Lake Run.

Luckily the weather held out and the families looked like they were having fun!

Thank you to all the volunteers for a successful event with special thanks to Glen Brivic, Kris Coder, Lisa Rainer and Toniya Villalobos for all their hard work!

LOWC Positions to fill

In order for us to sustain this great organization that helps the community and provides fabulous support to the amazing charities we are partnered with, we need a few people to fill some important positions.  We need your help!!!  Please consider these positions to help us run our organization smoothly.  If you have any questions or are ready to take on a position (thank you!), please contact Chris Bonney.

Thank you LOWC

First, a BIG Thank You to the Glen Brivic and Lake Run team, Lisa Rainer and the Sponsorship Team and Virginia Rubin and the PR Team - and all the club members that did their part to make this year's Lake Run such a fantastic success. Although I was away, I did receive so many complimentary comments on the race - everything from the new courses - the return to the lake was hugely welcomed - to the efficiency and cheerfulness of the people staffing the event. Our members and volunteers - especially in the plaza, did a wonderful job making the attendees welcome.

Second, a huge welcome to our newest members. At the May General Meeting, we voted to accept as Active members 14 women from the Provisional Class of 2013. These women have already contributed in many ways to the club, and will continue to do so. Some are even taking on board positions this next year! We are blessed to have such enthusiastic new members and a sincere thanks to DeLoris Scherschligt, Membership Chair, for making their 1st year experience so fulfilling.

This has been an amazing year for me - I 've learned so much from all of you and look forward to the coming year...  and speaking of the coming year, please send an email to me regarding your preference of what committee you would like to work on in the coming year. There will be an official "ask" shortly on that, so please respond! Every effort is made to place you in a committee of your choosing, but you have to let us know what your preference is!

Hope to see you all at the June general meeting - there is a bit of business to attend to, and a cause to celebrate...  Also, I hope to have some news of our 40th anniversary celebration. Hard to believe that we started 40 years ago, in 1974, holding bake sales!

Once again, thank you all!

President 2013-2015

Children's Center Luncheon

The following is an excerpt from a Children's Center Press Release:

Kenny Anderson and Barbara Peschiera
Children's Center raised critical funding and educated hundreds of guests when it hosted its eighth-annual Champions for Children Luncheon on Wednesday, April 30th.

The luncheon, held at The Oregon Golf Club, drew a crowd of more than 300 people and raised more than $70,000 to support the Center's services for abused and neglected children.

“The eighth-annual Champions for Children Luncheon gave guests an opportunity to learn about their power to shine a light on child abuse in our community,” said Children’s Center executive director Barbara Peschiera. “Kids need champions to help open the door to healing. With the continued support of our community, we can help vulnerable children heal.”

Tracy Barry, KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8, emceed the

afternoon’s program, which included a speech by former NBA player and abuse survivor Kenny Anderson.

Among the crowd were current and past Lake Oswego Women's Club members. LOWC sponsored a table at the luncheon with ten members seated at the table.

LOWC Booth at the Farmers Market

LOWC will have a booth at the Lake Oswego Farmers Market this weekend (Sat. May 24th 8:30 am - 1:30 pm). If you know anyone who did not receive their Lake Run medal and would like to pick it up, please have them stop by our booth.  We'll have the times for the top 5 people in each age category for each race.  We'll also have any of the extra Lake Run t-shirts for sale if you know anyone who would like one. If you plan to visit the market for your weekly grocery shopping, stop by and say hello to the LOWC gals that have volunteered to work!

We are looking for volunteers to work a shift at the LOWC booth that we'll be having at the July 19th Farmers Market at Millennium Plaza Park.  This is a fun opportunity for you to chat with people about your experience with the club, our mission and the types of things our various committees do.  We'd like to have 3 people per shift and are going to have 3 shifts (7:30 am - 9:30 am, 9:30 am - 11:30 am and 11:30 am - 1:30 pm).  Please contact Lisa Rainer at 503-307-5400 if you are interested in working one of these shifts. Yes, you can grab an LOWC friend and do it together!

Installation of Provisionals

In reflection of this past year, many great moments and achievements were witnessed in membership. Now it is with great pleasure to announce the installation of our inductees, that will assist us in continuing our legacy program and building our future. I am excited to announce this year's 14 Provisionals that were installed into active status.  They are (pictured left to right): Denise Slattery, Fran Herbert, Pauline Decker, Toniya Villalobos, Gaby Gardner, Jessica Clark-Root, Annie Arkebauer, Karen Schneider and Minita Feldsien.  Not in photo are: Sheri Rathbun, Jane Luby, Jackie Medecki, Karen Norgaard and Kelly Heard.

In conclusion, this robust list of strong women provided superior community support and assistance. All the while furthering the legacy of the LOWC. An example of the support areas were, Fundraising at CASA's Golf Tournament, providing a heartfelt brunch to families at Ronald McDonald, making jewelry for Abby's Closet Prom Giveaway, and reminding customers at Lambs Palisades to donate to Meals On Wheels.  These are just a few examples of their charitable spirit.

Congratulations to the 2013-2014 Provisional class in becoming active members!  We are proud to be associated and to serve with each and every one of you.  We are most proud to call you "friend"!

DID YOU HEAR AUDREY’S WHISTLE?

A fabulous production like Breakfast at Tiffany’s happens because of a talented crew working together. Our fashion show production needs your help to make our September 25th event a stellar affair Audrey would love to attend! If you have been wanting to get more involved with the club feast your eyes on the opportunities listed below.

MODELS
Audrey is looking for six club members to model in the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Fashion Show. (Sizes 4-6) or perhaps you have a lovely daughter that would love some community service credit or modeling experience!!  We also need 2 models for the LBD from Banana Republic up to size 12. Contact Sheri Rathbun at fashionshow@lowomensclub.org.

BASKETS
If modeling makes you hyperventilate there are other ways to participate in the fashion show. We are having each of our LOWC groups make up a basket this year for the raffle. There will be a Sustainer, an Active, a Provisional and a Past President’s Basket. If you are interested in orchestrating a basket for one of these groups or wish to contribute please contact Sheri Rathbun at fashionshow@lowomensclub.org.

SILVER ITEMS
We will be having a “silver” basket because afterall, the theme is Tiffany’s! If you have silver candleholders, serving trays, bowls or any other silver items that are lovely but no longer part of your life and you want to donate them to our silver basket email Sheri Rathbun at fashionshow@lowomensclub.org.

The fashion committee so appreciates any contribution you could make that would help us raise money for our charities! Check out our new Fashion Show pages on our LOWC website for continued information about the Fashion Show and Luncheon. The lovely Lori Malone is doing a fabulous creative job formatting the pages!

Get to know Jessica Clark-Root

Are you married?
I am! It will be 9 months on April 13th. Taylor and I started dating right before I began college at the U of O and we dated for 6 years before he popped the question in Central Park, NYC... ahhh :)  He is a great partner; funny, supportive, and doesn't take life too seriously. Taylor is an entrepreneur for a local software company called Pixel Gigs.

Do you have children?
No.

What cities/states have you lived in (in order if more than one)?
California- I was born in San Diego and it has been my second home. My parents met there and I have a couple of family members that live in Southern California so we try and visit once 1 year. San Diego is also where I got married. My family moved to the Portland area when I was 2 years old.

What is your favorite hobby?
Anything outside! I enjoy hiking, running, playing tennis and wine tasting with friends/family.

What is your favorite book?
Cheryl Strayed "Wild".

What is your favorite movie?
Pretty Woman.

What charity do you or would you like to, give your time to?
Abby's Closet sounds like a such a great local organization after being introduced to their team at our last meeting. I'm also interested in the Children's Cancer Association because most of us have been touched by cancer throughout our lives and I think their goal of helping family/children with support/resources through the dark days of cancer is very important.

Could you share your favorite recipe?
