Clackamas Women Services Luncheon Sign Up
Sign-up for a Luncheon in Support of Clackamas Women's Services (CWS).
We hope to fill a table with eight (8) of our wonderful women on November 13th in support of our selected charity, CWS. At this fall luncheon, CWS will seek financial support for and recognize the significant monetary efforts that have already gone into The Family Justice Center. The Center has been built to house services for victims of violence and abuse "All Under One Roof".
Please email Garlinn at: philanthropy@lowomensclub.org or call her on her cell phone at: 513-602-3009.
Final numbers should be turned in by Tuesday, November 5th (a special email was sent out by Lori Malone on this). Thanks for supporting one of our three main charities.

How we can be of service
Meals on Wheels People are looking for a team or individual volunteers for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov. 25th, 26th, and 27th) to staff the Lamb’s Nature's Choice Market (formerly known as "Palisades") from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Two people are needed for each two hour shift to hand out cards to customers coming into the store to "donate a dinner” to a senior (Shifts are: 10-noon, noon to 2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.)This would be a great opportunity for LOWC to wear our logo merchandise with Meals on Wheels aprons and get exposure for what we do in the community by helping nonprofit organizations.
LOWC members can sign up (no later than November 8th) at the Donate Dinner website:
www.donatedinner.org
Any questions can be directed to Garlinn, Philanthropy Chair, or you may contact Events Manager, Lauren Woodward at: lauren.woodward@mealsonwheelspeople.org.

Are you married?
I have been married for 15 years to someone I knew in high school. My husband and I got married on the beach in the Cayman Islands after a week-long scuba diving trip.
Do you have children?
No, we do not have any children.
What states have you lived in (in order if more than one)?
I was born in Missouri in the St. Louis area, moved to Austin, Texas when I was 12, and moved to Oregon 18 years ago.
What is your favorite hobby?
I am an avid reader and read 2-3 books a week. I love to garden and grow my own vegetables, and enjoy the old-fashioned practice of canning my own tomatoes and applesauce. My husband and I learned how to scuba dive 17 years ago and have been all over the Caribbean scuba diving. I'm a total foodie and love to cook and follow Top Chef religiously.
What is your favorite book?
The absolute best book I have ever read is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I have read this book at least 25 times and always get something more out of it each time I read it. I have read everything written by Stephen King, Lee Child, Jo Nesbo, Jodie Picoult, Harlan Coben, Michael Connelly and Kate Atkinson.
What is your favorite movie?
Steel Magnolias is definitely my favorite movie - I often quote many of the one-liners. My favorite is, "You know I love you more than my luggage."
What charity do you or would you like to, give your time to?
One of my current goals is to find time to volunteer at the Clackamas Children's Center. I think the work they do there is vitally important to the lives of the children they serve.
Could you share your favorite recipe?
My almost-famous Triple Chocolate Cupcakes:
16 oz. sour cream, room temperature
3 eggs
1/4 cup oil
1/2 cup kahlua
1 pkg. dark chocolate fudge cake mix (without pudding in the mix)
1 small pkg. instant chocolate fudge pudding
1 12-oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
Mix together the first four ingredients. Add the cake mix. Mix in the pudding. Add the chocolate chips. Fill cupcake cups 3/4 full and bake in 350 degree oven about 23 minutes for jumbo cupcakes or about 20 minutes for regular-sized cupcakes. These are divine served warm with vanilla ice cream!
Thanks Gabby for letting us get to know you!

LOWC Voting: Facts versus Traditions
FAQsDid you know that according to our Bylaws...
- Only Active (non-Provisional, non-Sustainer) members are qualified to vote.
- Provisional members are not “Active” in this sense, though you may hear the term “Active” used in other ways, so I appreciate the confusion.
- Provisional members may graduate to Active status at the May meeting after having met the conditions set forth in our Bylaws. After that motion-to-approve-the-new/once-Provisional-members, these women create a new “total of Active members” and a new minimum number to achieve Quorum will be created at that meeting.
- Therefore, Provisional members (currently) cannot contribute to the final tally of any motion. (This was not made clear at the last General meeting and I apologize for any confusion!)
- A Quorum is required for a vote to be formally accepted.
- For General meetings, Quorum is defined as 33% of our Active membership. Currently we have 34 Active members, so we need 11 Active members to achieve Quorum at these meetings.
- For Board meetings, Quorum is defined as 51% of our Board members (not including any Provisional or Sustaining member filling the duties of a Board position).
- Currently we have 11 such Board members, so we need 6 in attendance at our Board meetings to fulfill Quorum and formalize any motion.
- Until recently, we traditionally entertained motions to approve our monthly Treasurer’s Report. However, upon consideration of the Bylaws (which do not require such a motion) and logic (which begs the question as to what we are “approving,” since those voting are only accepting the numbers are presented by the Treasurer, not judging them), we have dispensed with this procedure and simply acknowledge in the Minutes that the Report has been filed.
- Though the organization has traditionally waited for a Quorum to be achieved before formally approving the Minutes (General or Board), closer scrutiny of the Bylaws informs us that it is unnecessary. Per Article V, Section H, the minutes of each meeting need only be “approved by the President and two other members.”
