Fashion Show Kicks off the 2013-2014 Year with a Bang!

Setting Sail

Well the committee assignment process is complete.  Be sure to watch your email for your specific assignment.  I am so excited to have such a talented pool of women to work with this year.  I am predicting smooth sailing along a steady course to success - and a great year of support for our charities.  I hope all will attend the upcoming general meeting held at the Children's Center.  It is a wonderful facility and if you aren't familiar with the organization, this is the perfect opportunity to hear about their work and get a tour of the facility after the meeting.  It will make you proud!  I also would like to remind all of you of the Holiday Party on December 7th.  Last year was great fun and I anticipate this year will be even better, so sign up soon.  And I would be remiss if I didn't give a HUGE THANK YOU to the Fashion Show committee for a fabulous event.  I have heard only the best and nicest comments about the show, food, clothes, decorations, well - everything.  So a very big and heartfelt thank you to Rhonda and her team - and also to Johanna McCormick for running the business meeting in my absence.

If I don't see you at the happy hour on the 9th at Manzana, hope to see you all at the Children's Center general meeting.  Until then, blessings to all!

LOWC Fashion Show Luncheon Lead
Well, it is now October so that means our wonderful 13th annual Luncheon and Fashion show has come and gone so I hope you were all there!  The Oswego Lake Country Club was bursting with Pink and Green and gorgeous ladies everywhere.  We enjoyed sake glazed salmon for lunch and a lovely seasonal fresh fruit tart for dessert which was so yummy!   We had 16 raffle baskets, a week at the beach, a weekend at Black Butte and $4500 diamond earrings all donated by generous  businesses and individuals throughout our area all to benefit our charities we support!

If you missed this event and still want to take part in one final drawing that hasn't taken place yet, there is still time!  I had a goal to sell 100 tickets at $50.00 each for the diamond earrings that LaRog Brother’s donated and have only sold 30 so I am still pressing on before I pull the winner!  I will draw the winner at our November 21st General meeting and will sell tickets at both our Oct and Nov meetings if you missed getting your ticket!  You can also contact me, Rhonda, directly by phone at
503-908-0024 to purchase!

We ended up pulling in $4,357 for our charities so far from  this event but if I can sell all 100 earring tickets I can finish big with $7857 in total profit!  In 2011 the profit was only $114 and in 2012 it was $1974 so this was a big year for the luncheon for sure!

Thanks again to my wonderful committee this year since I couldn't have done it without your hard work and dedication, you all were amazing!  Galina Kaesche, Scottie Johnson, Heather Broderick, Denise Kozslowski, Lori Faris, Sheri Rathbun, Diane Economaki and Amy Bartley!

Children's Center Gala Raises over $200,000 for Abused Children

(Press release - September 30)

Shauna Lugar, Barbara Peschiera, and Steve Dunn.
Children's Center's second-annual Healing Garden Gala, presented by Airstream Adventures Northwest, drew a crowd of over 200 people and raised over $200,000 for the region's most vulnerable children.  The event took place on the evening of Thursday, September 19th, on the grounds of Children’s Center (1713 Penn Lane, Oregon City).

Guests learned about the child abuse intervention work of Children’s Center by touring the Center room-by-room. Children's Center clinical staff members were on hand to give tours and answer questions, and displays described the prevalent issue of child abuse in Clackamas County and beyond. Those in attendance enjoyed substantial appetizers prepared and donated by Wild Currant Catering, Bistro Catering, Bugatti’s, Jefe, and Cypress.

Steve Dunn, of KATU Channel 2 News, emceed the evening's program, which included a presentation by volunteer and community advocate Jessica Farmer. Children's Center Executive Director Barbara Peschiera and Ted Davis of Airstream Adventures Northwest also gave remarks.

“The second-annual Healing Garden Gala gave guests an opportunity to learn about their power to protect kids in our community,” said Peschiera. “We are truly grateful for the incredible response we’ve seen when people learn about the issue of child abuse. With the support of our community, we will continue to help vulnerable children heal.”

Gold level sponsors of the event were NW Natural and Warn Employee Community Impact Project.

Editor's Note: Many LOWC members attended the Gala, some were there as guests, some were there as volunteers. Children's Center is one of LOWC's designated grant recipients. In 2010 LOWC began a 5-year partnership with Children's Center located in Oregon City. Children's Center is a partner in Clackamas County's response to child abuse and the answer to a child's pain. A private, non-profit medical assessment center, the Children's Center supports children and families in cases of suspected physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, drug endangerment and witness to violence. Lake Oswego Women's Club has pledged to donate $25,000 over a five year period to benefit Children's Center.
