Spring Fever
Hello Ladies,Do you have spring fever yet? I do. Time to count down and gear up … we have less than 50 days to do so much.
Time now to get ready for:
- Lake Run, Saturday, May 11
- Fill 2013-14 Board and chair positions, are you interested? (See job descriptions below the "meetings" article.)
- May 16, Provisionals are welcomed to LOWC membership!
- Children’s Center - Champions for Children Luncheon, May 8 - $50 (paid to Children's Center) reserve now with Lori Faris
- Philanthropy site visits – the grant process begins
- Complete our bylaws upate
- Complete our new policy documents
- Start planning our summer friend-raisers
- The LOWC at the LO Farmer’s Market – details to come
- Summer get-togethers
But first, spring break, a time for me to slow down with my family and regroup. I think it is important to balance our time with home and volunteering; we have a lot to accomplish between now and the end of our fiscal year (June 30, 2013). Lisa Rainer and I will be taking some time off from our duties with LOWC starting Friday, March 22 until March 30, 2013. We both hope you will take time out for yourself as well and come back ready to pitch in. Our work will get done so much faster with friends to help.
Come to our next General meeting, find out how you can help and get excited for Lake Run, it will be great!
Have a Happy Spring Break,
Denise Smith

Open Board Positions
President – The President facilitates the communications and coordination among the board positions, helps organize board and general meetings and provides a face for our clubs’ unified effort. The position of president requires a member who has served one year as a provisional and one year as a voting board member prior to beginning the presidential term.
Vice President – The Vice President assists the President in any way possible and acts on behalf of the President when the President is not available.
Treasurer – The Treasurer handles all of the clubs financial matters including balancing our books, staying in touch with our accountant as needed, check writing and budget reporting.
Secretary – The Secretary is in charge of taking the minutes at the board and general meetings, as well as submitting the minutes for review and approval at the meetings. This position works closely with the all board positions to ensure that information is recorded accurately on behalf of the club.
Philanthropy Chair – The Philanthropy Chair is responsible for coordinating the efforts to distribute our philanthropy funds each year. This involves coordinating with any partner charities, organizing site visits, lining-up speakers for our meetings and organizing the high school scholarship process.
Technology/Communications Chair – The Technology/Communications Chair is in charge of coordinating the club database, directory information, LOWC website, social media, email, and the club blog. This position requires above average computer software skills along with knowledge of data import and export, basic HTML, familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word for mail merge, and an ability to troubleshoot software issues independently. It is important that the person in this roll be able to reach out to each of the other chair positions to gather information and assist other chairs with computer related tasks.
Lake Pass Chair – The Lake Pass Chair is a new position for 2013/2014. This position will help implement a new fundraising effort for LOWC by way of a purchased “retail sales discount card”. This role will evolve as we learn more about how LOWC can grow the “Lake Pass” idea.
Membership Chair – The Membership Chair is responsible for recruiting, retaining and educating our membership about our clubs’ collective agenda. This position works closely with the Communications Chair and Directory Lead.
I hope you are all doing well and excited for Spring Break next week! If you are traveling have a safe trip and soak up some sunshine for those of us that are staying home this year.
I would like to thank Becky Nicoli for hosting our Movie night last week at her beautiful home. Plus I'd like to thank Lauren, Lisa, Chana, and Virginia for coming to enjoy the gorgeous view with us. Becky warned me that out of the last six movie nights she has hosted only one night did they actually watch the movie. Well, we didn't watch the movie but we did sit outside soaking in the view of the lake eating candy, drinking wine and talking like only girls can! Such fun I hope we can do it again soon. We did peek into their theater room on our way out though and it is impressive...
Our next party is Poker Night at my house on April 20th. Please email me if you'd like to be added to the list along with your husband, boyfriend, or friend. It is a really fun night and last year we didn't stop until 1:30 am when somebody finally checked their watch! That's how much fun we were having.
Enjoy the rest of March and I hope to see you soon!

Donors ResourceDonorsResource.org connects individual and businesses who want to donate items with nonprofit organizations that need them. The organization was founded by Della Rae and her sister based on the thought that "by sharing we can reduce amount of needed items being stacked and forgotten in basements, garages and our landfills". DonorResource.org has also involved students by giving them hands on service learning experience by placing them in meaningful roles within the organization. DonorResource.org success has been built on word of mouth referrals so be sure to check out the website and mention it to a friend the next time someone is clearing out a garage, re-decorating a house, or growing out of baby gear. They also accept financial contributions to support the work required to keep the organization running.
