President's Message
Hello LOWC!
February is a favorite month of mine, it isn't because of Valentine’s Day but because it is so close to the start of spring. We have just a few months until Lake Run which to me is the kick-off to the beginning of summer and sun! I hope this edition of our LOWC news blog finds you well.
Let’s begin my update of the last few weeks:
At the February 7 Board meeting, it was voted not to host the Holiday Home Tour in December 2013. This was not an easy decision and not made lightly. Kate Myers and her holiday home tour committee did an excellent job of researching our history, our community and to provide a review of the past HH tours. Holiday Home tour was discussed over the course of several meetings one of which was to go over feedback from some of you that choose to share your views.
The board had 2 primary reasons not to hold a HHT 2013:
- The Sponsorship fund raising requirement for HHT 2013, based on past HHT - number of tickets sold, expense vs. sponsorship income, all verified that the net profit we have seen in recent years did not merit the use of volunteer hours to operate and support the HHT for 2013. We felt this would stretch our resources to produce two large events at this time. However, we will consider the option to host the Holiday Home Tour in 2014.
- Adequate numbers of volunteers for each house are an important issue for both the liability of each home and the enjoyment of our customers. Members please read our 2/21/13 general minutes for more information or email me your questions.
It is officially time for the nomination committee to begin work filling next year’s offices and chair positions. If you are interested in being chair for a committee please contact me. I can go over qualifications and you will also make it easier for the Nomination committee to know who has an interest in leadership next year.
We have been invited to a Mom Prom! The Lake Oswego Mom’s Club will be hosting their first annual “Mom Prom”, March 16. It promises to be everything that your prom was but just for Mom’s! This local organization of 300 plus members, is a 501(C)3 that also wishes to help our community. Here is a link to learn more about the Mom Prom: http://www.lomoms.com/events/momprom2013
Please be sure to read the information to participate in an Abby's Closet work party. I will not cover what has already been written but would like to thank Zie Zie Senzaki of our Philanthropy committee for all her efforts in arranging this for us. Work parties are a fun way to work with your friends and help others; this will instantly make you happy.
Our dear friend and wonderful treasurer, Robin Tremayne, lost her stepfather Gordon this month. If you have a moment, please send Robin your love and let her know you are thinking of her and her family. Please keep all of our members in your thoughts that are experiencing an illness, a loss or who are caring for a loved one and let them know you are thinking of them.
That is all for this week, I hope to see you soon.
