Letter from the President
Hello Ladies!
The November General Potluck meeting was a great success! Due to a family emergency Jeanne Kistner could not host our potluck and Lisa Rainer stepped in to host. Lisa did a great job and it is my prayer that all is well in the Kistner family. Thank you Lisa for hosting, it is much appreciated and hope that you enjoyed the flowers!
The meeting on November 15 was well attended and we shared a great lunch. I was pleased to see that so many of you could attend. Please make sure you read your general meeting minutes to find out what we covered if you were not able to make the meeting.
One of the items shared at the 11/15 general meeting was the LOWC Party Board themes and dates for the 2012-13 year. The party boards offer a fun way for the LOWC to help supplement our Operations income.
Save the date for the following, more information details will be offered at our Holiday party, Thursday, December 13:
- Holiday party, December 13, The Heritage House – Lake Oswego, 6:30 pm, $10 per person
- PJ party at Lauren’s Retzlaff home, January 18 at 7pm, cost $25.
- Poker party, February 23, Jeri Parrot’s home, 7pm, cost $20
You can reserve your spot now by mailing checks payable to LOWC to our PO Box 1434, Lake Oswego, 97035 – please specify which party date, your name, and how many will be attending with you.
Two members have announced that they will be moving to the great state of Texas, Deanna Phillips and Caren Korabeck. The both expect to be in Oregon until March but need to step down from their LOWC duties to begin preparation for their move. Caren was serving on the Lake Run committee and Deanna stepped down from being our Public Relations Chair. You will both be missed. Thank you for your many years of service!
If anyone is interested in being our next Public Relations Chair, please contact me by phone or email. This is a board position overseeing a committee of 2. I would like to offer the next PR chair a chance to train with Deanna and I to get you started.
Please keep DeLoris Scherschligt, Jeanne Kistner and Jeri Parrott in your thoughts; all have had family emergencies this past month. If I have missed anyone, please let me know. Lastly, I would like to remind you all that the LOWC will not be hosting a general meeting in December and hope in its place you, a spouse or a friend can join us at our holiday party. Come socialize, share and enjoy the friendships that your club has to offer, Thursday, December 13 at 6:30pm. Our next General meeting will be held January 17 at 9:30am.
I hope you all take time to slow down, rest, and enjoy your Family and Friends this week,
Happy Thanksgiving!
Denise Smith
2012-13 LOWC President
Pulchritudinous Provisionals
Lauren has now won two raffles to Chucks Coffee. She would like to treat the Provisionals to coffee. Look for a "Doodle" that Lori will send out. She will list some dates and times to see what works for the majority. Very casual, Lauren will probably be in her yoga clothes.
We also want to make sure that all Provisionals have been contacted by their committee chair. If you haven't please let us know. The Membership Committee is your advocate, we are here to help you navigate your first year in LOWC.

Welcome to our new Advisory Board
After a proposal last year and discussions at our last board meeting, the Lake Oswego Women's Club would like to welcome back three of our past presidents as our new "Advisory Board". Leslie Pirotta was president during the 2004-2005 year and has been affiliated with our club for more than 10 years. Caroline Albertson was president during the 2006-2007 year and has been affiliated with us for at least 12 years and Susan Ziegler, who was president during the 2007-2008 year has been working with us for more than 13 years. Thanks ladies, for not only all the years you've given this club in the past, but for agreeing to help guide us into the future.
With a large percentage of the club membership having less than 3 years with us, and with our president being in her second year, we thought it would be a good time to be bouncing ideas off of ladies that know of our club's history, our traditions, and of the many things that have helped to shape us. We are excited to have Leslie, Caroline and Susan on board! Thanks ladies!

Potluck Luncheon was Fun and Informative!
Special thanks to everyone who was able to attend. We had an abundance of delicious food on which to nosh - everyone did a great job of bringing a variety of tasty items. A HUGE thank you to Lisa Rainer who stepped up at the VERY last minute to offer her home as the new location when Jeanne Kistner was called away for a family emergency (Jeanne and family are fine).
Greg Pace from Good Deeds provided all present with information about the great services provided by his organization. We appreciate the donations and contributions supplied to Good Deeds by many of our LOWC members. Good Deeds is a Lake Oswego based organization that provides support to families who are dealing with medical circumstances and who are unsupported by other organizations. They fill a niche in our community ensuring that while families focus on caring for the person with a medical condition, the family's needs are also met. These needs may be financial as medical bills add up or parents are unable to work; or these needs may be for goods and service to save the family time. Each situation is unique and each Good Deed is done on an individual basis.
You can read more about Good Deeds at www.gooddeeds.org.

All Members Invited to Fundraising/Business Policy Gathering Nov. 26, 1:00 3:00
Ever wonder:- Why some members bemoan Percentage-Of-Proceeds donations?
- Why some Percentage-Of donations are deemed legal while others are not?
- Why Party Boards have never been a Percentage-Of fundraiser?
- What the policy difference is/isn’t and should/shouldn’t be between inside-club marketing channels and outside-club marketing channels?
- Why some business and personal donations make the ‘headlines’ of our organization while other member’s donations are overlooked?
- Why it’s wrong, when helping out producing a big fundraiser, to put LOWC funds in your own business account until you can reimburse LOWC with a seemingly easier one-time deposit afterward?
- What difference it makes In The Long Run if we transition our marketing channel model from an OPB/Children’s Center policy to a Shopping Channel/PTA policy? What are the financial considerations?
- How does out marketing channel define our “brand”?
- Why some members bemoan the “problem” while some members don’t see that there is a “problem”?
- How we can make offering our valuable LOWC Marketing Channel to businesses (internal and external) even MORE ATTRACTIVE?
On November 26, from 1:00 to 3:00 at the home of Robin Tremayne, you will be provided with a comfortable and structured setting in which our policy history and legal and branding rationale will be fully disclosed by a member of our Advisory Board, along with a presentation of what we have been currently doing and why—representing the newer concepts and rationale. All this will be followed by Q & A for maximum cross-pollination of understanding and ideas and see some new sample models presented!
As much as I, too, am seduced by the idea of Moving Forward, I firmly believe that we cannot be effective policy creators if we (both sides) do not understand all the implications. Can we admit we do not know what we do not know?
While the intention of this gathering is to acquire information and perspectives, not draft a written policy, there is the expectation that from the knowledge gained at this gathering a small team of members will be willing and able to leave with the tools to craft a clear, useful, written Fundraising/Business Policy to offer the Board for further vetting.
Look for an email detailing the time and place to arrive in your email inbox soon. Please know all are welcome!

Got Directory.....yet?
It is my understanding that every committee Chair or her surrogate has delivered Directories not picked up at the October 18 General Meeting distribution.
However, if this is not the case, and you are still without your hardcopy Directory, I advise you to contact your Chair to determine the best method for obtaining it. If for some reason that method fails, feel free to contact me. I will be happy to work with you to track down your copy!
Additionally.....
.....All members are reminded they can update their online Directory information at any time, 24/7. And members are further reminded that if you are not getting "through" to a member using the information in the hardcopy Directory, they should consider verifying against the online profile data, since that member may have subsequently updated her phone, email, or address.
As always, if you have questions or concerns regarding the hardcopy Directory, contact me! If you have questions or concerns for the online Directory/database, Online Communications Chair Lori Malone welcomes your emails or calls!
